Coach G
Building guards who can score and create
I’m Galen Campbell, a former Division I basketball player focused on developing skilled, confident, high IQ guards. My approach comes from years of playing and studying the game while learning from both my strengths and struggles as a player.
Through Elite Guard Development, I combine old school fundamentals with modern creativity in a structured development system. Each player receives clear goals, organized sessions, and weekly homework designed to reinforce skills and accelerate progress. I develop complete guards with the confidence, IQ, and bag full of tricks to attack any defense.
In a typical session, I challenge players to step outside their comfort zone while encouraging them through every rep. I want them to feel supported as they work through mistakes and develop new skills.
Basketball is as much mental as it is physical, so building confidence is part of everything I teach. My goal is for players to trust themselves and learn to stay confident even when the game gets difficult. It is my duty as a coach to help players build unbreakable confidence in themselves, on and off the court.
The goal is for your skills to become second nature so you can play confidently instead of overthinking every move. Beyond basketball, I want players to understand that what they practice consistently becomes a habit. Learning to build good habits is a lesson they can carry into every part of life.

Basketball has been part of my life from the beginning, shaped by my own playing experience and more than 25 years of mentorship.
My greatest basketball influences have been both my parents. They built the foundation for how I understood and approached the game. My father, Rick Campbell, was a Junior College All-American at Hiwassee, where he led the country in scoring before playing at Middle Tennessee State and becoming a 2 time All-OVC selection. He was later drafted by the Utah Jazz in 1982 after upsetting Kentucky in the NCAA Tourney. He later coached more than 25 DI players, including one NBA Draft pick, along with countless DII, DIII, NAIA and JUCO players.
My mother, Beverly Campbell, formerly Beverly McCowan, played Division I basketball at Oral Roberts. Both were two sport All-State athletes and later coached together in YBOA and AAU.
I was coached for 7 years by Tennessee All-American and 1987 Chicago Bulls draft pick Tony White, who helped mentor me throughout my career. I also played for 5-time State Champion Jody Wright and later for Cuonzo Martin and Donnie Tyndall at Tennessee, who have both coached teams to Sweet 16 appearances.
Inside the gym with Coach G — real Elite Guard Development training clips: ball handling, footwork, and game-speed reps. Tap any clip to watch.
Every session follows the same progression, so skills actually hold up in games — players build each skill in order, so it survives contact, pressure, and speed.
Handles, footwork, and shot form with no movement to hide behind. Clean, honest reps — dribbling through rhythm — until the movement is fluid.
The same skills on the move: cuts, pivots, floaters, and shots off the dribble. If it only works standing still, it doesn’t work.
Reads and decisions against real pressure at game speed — when to attack, pull up, or move the ball. This is where confidence gets built.
“Rep it until it’s fluid. Stay creative. Rep the creativity.” It is my duty to build their confidence to be unbreakable.Coach G — on how and why he trains

An All-State performer in high school, I went on to play NCAA Division I basketball at the University of Tennessee, where I earned a full athletic scholarship after joining as an invited walk-on. I was also a Vol Scholar and trained alongside NBA and international professional players.
I now coach youth basketball and specialize in player development. I teach fundamentals, basketball IQ and game skills while building confidence and discipline. My goal is to help every player understand the game and grow as a player and leader.
Working with Coach G has really helped me improve my game. We started with baby steps by learning the footwork first, then practicing the movements without the ball. From there, we added stationary ball handling, movement with the ball, and eventually used those same moves to create shots. We worked on advanced moves inspired by players like James Harden, and I liked how everything built on what I learned before. The workouts helped me understand not just how to do a move, but how to use it in a real game.
I loved how technical Coach G was with developing the offensive moves he was teaching me. He literally starts at A and brings you to Z with the movement of your feet body and ball and bringing it all together.
Coach G helped me with fixing my shot and having the correct form to shoot the ball and following through. He also taught me the fundamentals of dribbling the basketball with my fingertips.
Coach G is very patient with my son Jayden. He explains each move in a way that is easy to understand. Jayden is more confident now and loves going to training.
My daughter needed more than basic drills. Coach G challenges her with game like moves and teaches her when to use them. Her ball control and basketball IQ have improved.
My daughter Ava has learned so much from Coach G. He helps her fix her mistakes and always cheers her on. She practices at home because she wants to get better.
